Meg Holland Sworn in as City Controller

On January 7, 2008 Meg Holland CPA/ABV, CIA, CVA, CFE was sworn in as City of Bethlehem Controller. Her election as City Controller was extremely publicized during October and November 2007. She became the first elected Republican to a city office in years and beat Democrat David DiGiacinto. Meg Holland campaigned on her over 30 years of experience as a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Valuation Analyst, Certified Fraud Examiner and Accredited in Business Valuation. Meg Holland was clearly the best candidate and the city was smart in electing her in a very close election. Holland won by about 1.5% of the vote.

Holland's swearing in has not come without controversy. Rumors were floating around city hall and the city that she was spending the city's money to re-do her office and install curtains and carpet. Holland dispelled the rumors when Daryl Nerl of the Morning Call interviewed her a few weeks ago. Holland is spending her own money to spruce up the office and brought in her own furniture. The city was only responsible for cleaning the office and painting the walls, both of which were apparently neglected for 40 years. Meg Holland plans to take the Controller's Office to a new level. Meg Holland plans to speak briefly at the January 22, 2008 City Council Meeting (at 7pm in City Hall) to annouce her first year agenda.
