Yesterday, J. Michael Schweder proposed limiting campaign contributions to $1,000 for an individual for an election and $2,500 for a Political Action Committee for the mayor, city council, controller and treasurer. Mr. Schweder must have forgotten that he received $5,000 from the Campaign Committee of Former State Representative TJ Rooney and $5,000 from Dorothy Zug-Taylor in 2005 for his campaign for city council.
This is an example of another one of Schweder's personal attacks against the Mayor, since he plans to run for Mayor (and he'll lose). He hopes to prevent Mayor Callahan from raising funds which will exceed his own funds. This is also an attack against Meg Holland and an attempt to get his friend's name (Mr. DiGiacinto) in the paper again. Schweder needs to get a life and start doing GOOD things for the city rather than causing problems!

Wow! Won't the same rules apply to everyone? If they were in effect, they would have actually prevented DiGiacinto from getting so much dough.
I think this is a good idea.
If everyone is playing by the same rules, how is it unfair to one candidate or an advantage to another candidate?
Holland and DiGiacinto both raised lots of money. If anything this would have helped Holland.
William Reynolds showed that a campaign of hard work and small contributions can be successful in the city. He knocked on doors and met people and won.
There are alternatives to spending money.
It would have hurt Holland because she received $15,100 from her good friend Elmer Gates... who donated the money out of the kindnesse of his own heart... he is not even a Bethlehem resident. He just wanted to make sure that Holland was able to send out 4 mailings... because if she didn't she probably would have lost to DiGiacinto since he spent over $30,000 on mailings.... I really wish the Controller position (a non-partisan position) would always go to the most qualified... however this clearly doesn't happen. In addition, Holland and her family members walked to over 3,000 houses. Fortunately, for Willie Reynolds none of the council candidates spent a lot of money... so he didn't have to.
